DRose Gone but Not Forgotten:Too Soon?

"—the sun don't shine, then son don't shine.
That's why your [. . .] career come to an end."
--Jay-Z

This is not a diss song, this is a real s—ok, enough Jay. It is time to pay homage to another player that seems almost gone too soon. Rumor has it that separate from his current Cavaliers team Derrick Rose has distanced himself, gone AWOL, moved on. In a season that is in its infancy, DRose is making his way through the sports headlines. Rumor has it he is ‘reevaluating his future in the NBA.’ What does this all mean? Is that code for retirement? Let us reminisce on D-Rose while he’s still “with us” and contemplate this possibility.

Rose has been out since November 7 with an ankle sprain. As injury has become somewhat synonymous with his name, it is no big surprise such an injury would sideline this pro for weeks. However, look at DRose the athlete….only 29 years young, MVP, franchise player of the Chicago Bulls. A line of credits like this would normally read well with a future ahead of him. This is not the case for Derrick Rose and there is no telling where he is in the philosophical.

DRose must feel many things inside. Mostly because he never had the chance to live up to his proposed potential. Injuries have plagued him something terrible.  He has gone from a 2011 MVP, with the world of basketball at his command, to an NBA journeyman. Present day, his legacy has become meme fodder about his next ambulance ride. He must feel many things and no one can get inside the mind of a man recognizing his own “has-been” status.

If rumors are true and DRose exits stage left, he is leaving a lot on the table. His lucrative Adidas contract that pays out $70 million over the next 6 years. Do not forget—worst-case scenario—veteran minimum contracts in the future. No, Derrick Rose is not in need of money and will not go without if he does retire but the question becomes is this the right move for someone of his athletic caliber? Is DRose better off out of a uniform?

He must feel many things. That said, may DRose excel in his next life. Wherever his post-baller career takes him, front office job or TNT/NBAtv squad, may DRose find the completion he could not find on the court.
